Thermador Appliance Specialists

Thermador has been in American kitchens since 1916. The brand has earned its reputation on the Star Burner cooktop, the Pro Grand range, and the Freedom refrigeration columns. We've earned ours by knowing exactly what fails on each — and fixing it right the first time.

Thermador Specialty: The Star Burner Cooktop

The Thermador Star Burner is unique — a star-pattern burner with a center flame and four radiating points, designed to spread heat under the pan more evenly than any conventional burner. Beautiful design, real performance benefit, and a complete pain to service if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Most appliance shops will glance at a Thermador Star Burner and refer you to “the dealer.” We service them. We carry the specific burner cap design, ignitor electrodes, brass venturi tubes, and the porcelain spillover trays that fit the Star Burner cooktops. We know the cleaning procedure that won’t damage the porcelain. We know the gas valve adjustment. We’ve been working on these cooktops for over fifteen years.

If you have a Thermador Star Burner cooktop or range, you don’t want a generalist. You want us.

Thermador Platforms We Service

Pro Grand Ranges (PRG / PRD / PRL series)

The 36", 48", and 60" Pro Grand ranges with the signature Star Burner cooktop and double or single ovens below. Common service: Star Burner igniters and electrodes, gas valves, oven igniters, infrared broiler elements, convection fans, oven thermostats, hinge springs, and the door gasket on the larger ovens that wears at the bottom corners.

Pro Harmony Ranges

30" and 36" residential pro-style. Similar internals to Pro Grand but scaled smaller. Same service approach.

Built-In Wall Ovens (POD / PODS / PODM series)

Single, double, and steam combination ovens. We service all of them. Common: bake/broil elements, control boards (the Thermador touch boards have specific failure modes we know), latch motors, hinge springs.

Star Burner Cooktops (SGSX / SGSL series)

30", 36", 48", and the iconic 60" Pro version. Service: igniter electrodes, spark modules, burner caps, gas valves, regulator inspection.

Induction Cooktops (CIT series)

The mid-line induction cooktops. Service: induction generator boards (each cooktop has multiple generators for different element zones), user interface, cooling fans.

Freedom Refrigeration Columns (T18ID / T24ID / T30ID / T36IT series)

The integrated column refrigerators and freezers built behind cabinet panels. Service: defrost system, ice maker assembly, control boards, evaporator fans, door alignment after panel adjustments.

Dishwashers (DWHD series)

Star Sapphire and Sapphire built-in dishwashers. Service: pumps, control boards, door latches, water inlet valves, the Thermador-specific spray arm systems.

Common Thermador Failures We See

Star Burner Won’t Light Properly

Igniter electrode worn or burner cap clogged. We disassemble, clean the venturi properly (not just wipe it), and replace electrodes if needed. We measure spark gap to spec.

Star Burner Yellow Flame

Air shutter adjustment, regulator issue, or gas pressure low. We measure with a manometer. Most homeowners don’t realize that “yellow flame” is a fixable adjustment — it’s not a sign you need a new cooktop.

Pro Grand Oven Won’t Heat

Oven igniter failure (most common — these have a service life of about 8-10 years), gas safety valve, or — on dual-fuel — bake element. We diagnose and have the parts.

Pro Grand Convection Fan Loud Or Stopped

Convection fan motor. Standard replacement, parts on the truck.

Door Won’t Close Properly On Pro Grand

Hinge springs (the Pro Grand has heavy doors and the springs eventually wear), or warped door from self-clean. Repairable.

Freedom Column Refrigerator Warming

Evaporator fan or defrost system, depending on which compartment. We diagnose with proper procedure.

Freedom Ice Maker Stopped

Ice maker module or water valve. Common. We fix without replacing the whole unit.

Wall Oven Touch Board Unresponsive

Specific Thermador touch interface failure mode — the user interface board. Replaceable, in our parts inventory for the major platforms.

Sapphire Dishwasher Not Draining

Drain pump or check valve. Standard repair.

Dishwasher “Lights Flashing” Error Code

Fault code identification, then specific repair. Don’t let any tech tell you “it’s the control board” without first reading the actual error.

Why The Star Burner Specialty Matters

If you have a Thermador Star Burner cooktop or range, the sad truth is most “appliance repair” companies will either decline the work or do a bad job. The burners look unusual, the parts are specific to the platform, and the gas pressure tuning matters more than on a typical cooktop. Wrong adjustment and the burner lights but burns yellow, sooty, and inefficient.

Our techs are factory-trained on the Star Burner platform. We carry the parts. We have the manometers and combustion analyzers needed to tune the burners properly. And we won’t give up on your cooktop just because it’s unusual. That’s a real difference.

Why Thermador Owners Stay With Us

Thermador, like Wolf and Sub-Zero, is a 20-year appliance. Most people who own one will go through 4-6 service calls over its lifetime. They want a tech they can trust to remember what was done last time, what’s likely to fail next, and what’s the right call when something major comes up. We’ve been around since 1992, we keep service records on every customer, and we plan to be around when your cooktop hits year 22 and finally needs that gas valve replaced.

"Thermador double oven, both bake elements out, three weeks before Thanksgiving. The dealer said six weeks for parts. American Appliance had it sorted in five days because Terry knew which warehouse would have them. Saved my holiday." — Eleanor R., Encino
